Grizwald

Our dog, Grizwald, has developed some type of skin condition over the past weeks. He is shedding EVEN MORE than usual, which is bad enough, but he also has extraordinarily dry, flaky skin and occasionally, chunks of fur with dead skin attached come off. Very disgusting. We took him to the vet and they said it's just dry skin and give him baths with special shampoo.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't - but we're trying! He doesn't get crabby when bathed, but he tries to get away, so Dan puts on his collar and leash and ties him to the fence. How pitiful is that face??

This may sound kind of stupid on the surface of it, but did the vet ever look into whether the dog has allergies? As weird as it sounds, it apparently can happen, and some of the symptoms sound like they fit. If it is happening, it could be anything - food, treats, meds, flea & tick control, etc. - just like in humans. Except for the flea and tick control of course :)

No, he didn't say anything about allergies. It's actually starting to improve, he doesn't look quite so disgusting, Now it's more flaking skin, like dandruff. I bought some spray, new shampoo and was told it was okay to give him benadryl. We'll see....
