This morning we took the kids to see Santa, Mrs. Claus and Jingle the Elf at the Jackson Street Roundhouse (thanks to Allison for the referral!). It was fun - lots of old trains inside to walk through and a chance to see Santa arrive on the caboose and then take a short ride on the train.
The Jackson Street Roundhouse is definitely a cool (and seemingly little publicized) place for kids to see the trains up close. Jonny has given it a very enthusiastic two thumbs up in the past.
If you happen to be looking for a bigger train excursion for the kids someday, the same preservation society that does work at the Roundhouse also plays a role in the Osceola St. Croix Railway, which offers longer train rides. A very cool way to see some of the St. Croix River valley, plus they have specially themed rides at different times of the year.
