A short vacation - thank goodness!

I'm very excited - I now have 4 days off from work (sigh), which means some time to regroup and not have to listen to constant talking at work. Damn that open door policy of mine anyway! It can be really annoying when you are actually trying to get work done and people stop by every few minutes to chat, complain, tell me something is broken, or my personal favorite - the salespeople who just "stop by" to see if you are busy.

Although there is one funny story from one such interruption this week - one of the newer providers to the clinic, Dr. Jason, as Scooter and Poo-Tee-Weet know him, stopped by to say we really need an auto door opener for our doors leading into and out of the lobby. I assured him that I was aware of this need, but unfortunately, money is tight and we didn't have enough to do it this year (see yesterday's Star Trib business section for the woes of healthcare organizations). He then came up with the idea to hire a bellman (with one of those funny hats) to stand at the door and open it for folks. I suggested a monkey in a little hat, thinking this would be cheaper - no salary, just bananas. He ran with that and thought we could actually make money on the deal by sending him out to work kids' birthday parties. I have to say, some of the folks I work with are certainly good humor!

Musings regarding Mrs. Brady

I was channel surfing the other day and watched a bit of the Brady Bunch. So nice to go back to those simpler days. But it got me thinking - what did Mrs. Brady DO all day? Alice was the live-in help - she did the cooking, shopping, cleaning, etc. You see Mrs. Brady hanging around, but never really doing anything except bug the kids and say "Oh Mike!". Sheesh - how did she get that gig? Sign me up!

New laptop

I'm back! I know, been gone for ages - I know there has to be at least one person out there who missed me.

I am happy to report that I finally convinced my husband that a laptop was essential for me, so I got one last weekend. (Of course it may have been his guilt for buying several expensive tools as his father's day gift, but who am I to question?)

Took Conner to Izzy's tonight for some ice cream. I asked what flavor he wanted and he said "pink". There were several pink choices and we ended up with Strawberry. I didn't think the one with alcohol in it would be the best choice and I really couldn't bring myself to get Bubble Gum. Disgusting! Note to Scooter - they have an Oatmeal Stout currently - have you tried that? Anyway, luckily I made the strawberry our "Izzy" because Conner took one bite & declared it "icky". He took several bites of the chocolate I had chosen and that was it - the rest was for me. It's so tough being a mom.....

The highlight was going a few stores down to the train shop - they have 4 train tables set up in the back and it appears they are there for kids to enjoy. There are two benches for the weary adults to sit and rest while their kids play and they even have a room for birthday parties. I never realized those train sets were so expensive! I thought of buying him a little something from there, but decided against it when I found the cheapest set was over $100. We'll let grandma/grandpa or Auntie Joyce & Uncle Kent spoil him with that someday! :-)
